Job Description: National Business Development Manager - Industrial/Retail/Ecom Packaging

Reporting to: Head of Sales

Location: Central UK

Job Purpose

As a leading Packaging distributor providing solutions to a wide range of customers, including industrial, food service, pharmaceutical, healthcare, grocery, retail, ecommerce and manufacturing, we are looking to recruit a National Business Development Manager, focussed on developing our customer base with industrial, retail and ecom sectors. Our purpose here at Zeus is to provide innovative sustainable quality packaging solutions tailored for the modern consumer lifestyle needs.

The National Business Development Manager role is newly created and designed to drive growth by increasing sales revenue and margin whilst establishing strong customer relationships. As the face of the Zeus team on a National level the BDM needs to be ambitious, energetic, and driven in order to expand our Account portfolio. Working aligned with the company sales strategy being dedicated to developing and implementing an effective sales strategy is key.

Targeting accounts with an annual spend on packaging of over £100,000 this role will be initially 100% new business development. Accounts won will be managed by the BDM for a 12-month period to set up and establish relationships and supply agreements. After a 12-month period the BDM will oversee the management of the accounts with a National Account Manager running the day to day needs of the customer.

You will prospect, target and present to key accounts aligned with company strategy and product offering utilising the resources from across the business including resource in Packaging Technology, Supply Chain Team, Marketing, Finance & Operations. This account management approach will be key in engaging at senior level, offering packaging solutions that deliver greater efficiency, productivity, and customer experience. Taking on a Continuous Improvement approach, you will understand clients’ needs and tailor solutions that will unlock greater value within the supply chain.

Key Responsibilities:  
  • Drive business growth with 100% new business target. Focused on accounts with over £100k spend in the industrial, retail and ecom packaging sector. You will be responsible for both revenue development at the appropriate GM% as set by the Head of Sales.
  • Develop a growth strategy focused on sales revenue and margin.
  • Produce a strong pipeline of target accounts that are worked on daily to maximise on the opportunity to win the account.
  • Proactively sell Zeus raising profile and identifying opportunities via telesales, networking, social media, trade shows etc.
  • Approach & Position Zeus through the introduction of a Key Account Management team capable of assessing and evaluating needs, developing innovative, technical solutions that drive efficiency and improved value within their business.
  • Work with Head of Sales, Marketing, Supply Chain and Packaging Technologist to put together presentations in line with Stronger Sales process. 
  • Present to potential customers.
  • Excellent account management via day to day contact and customer visits if required.
  • Work in partnership with CSE to achieve sales value and £GP targets
  • Identify opportunities for account development either line extensions, product innovation or cost reduction exercises with the support of packaging tech guidelines and in line with the company sales strategy.
  • Manage all bespoke stock to ensure contracts are in place and adhered to.
  • Review bespoke stock/specials on a quarterly/as and when ordered to ensure that the best possible price is achieve providing competitive pricing for the customer and increasing margins.
  • Provide customer with quotations within allocated timescale, arranging follow up/feedback calls
  • Key customers to be targeted to be entered into a 12-24 month contracts
  • Introduce and support customers to use B2B portal for processing orders/account management. 
  • Working to set KPI’s
  • Ensure CRM system is fully utilised and up to date

Required Skills/Experience:

  • Proven track record of identifying and winning new business, achieving new business sales value and GP targets.
  • Experience managing large spending accounts. 
  • Experience within packaging industry and understanding of process and pack inefficiencies and how to unlock value.
  • Strong presentation skills.
  • Ability to work as a team and use own initiative when required.
  • Flexibility to undertake other business activities when required
  • Self-motivator with the ability to prioritise 
  • Enjoys dealing with people and creating relationships
  • The want to learn about new products and services and able to provide this information to customers
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint & Outlook)
